Taybeh is a lovely village near Ramallah. It is an entirely Christian village of 1,500 inhabitants. A beer worthy of the best German beers is brewed by the Khoury family. This beer is named Taybeh. Taybeh means delicious in Arabic. Each October brings with it a significant event, the Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest promotes not only the beer, but also local Palestinian products such as olive oil, which is pressed right on the spot.
Here's a little video that explains the history of this family's success and the process of brewing.
The meaning of the Taybeh logo:
On each side we have a French and a Belgian malt.
Next we have stairs leading to two barrels and fermenters.
Then the hills and the sun in the middle which means a bright future for the Palestinians.
And at the bottom, Bavarian hops.
Also note that on the barrels is the Canadian Prince Edward Island. As they say in Quebec: "Ya a little bit of us in there. "
Tonight, I'll take a Taybeh and think of you my dear readers.
